Sunday's Great Ride

It's been a while since we've been on a ride... so naturally we picked the hottest day of the summer for a quick jaunt.  105 degrees is not bad when you are moving, but when you stop... it's soooooo dang hot!

We got up early to beat the heat... and joined up with our friends Scott and Kelly.

Scott and Kelly just got a new Harley... and were ready to take it for a spin.  Cliff and I warned them that we like to make a lot of stops just to check things out.  Luckily, that didn't scare them, they were up for it... which was awesome!

So off we went...  heading from Tulsa toward Locust Grove and Spavinaw on some great curvy roads.  And boy, did we see some good stuff on this trip!  Enjoy!

When I got home, 

I ordered TWO of these beavers for my yard.

But I requested the beavers not be quite as "angry" looking.  

Just outside of Adair, Oklahoma... we stopped to check out some cow hide rugs.  If you follow my blog, you know I love cows.  (Yes, even dead ones.  ha!)   I have always wanted a cow hide rug... really I have!   And today was my lucky day...  Cliff bought me a beautiful one, which we were able to fold up and cart home on the bike!

We motored on... down historic Route 66 as we made our way back to Tulsa.  Our next stop was Totem Pole Park.  These pictures don't do the totem poles justice... they really are interesting works of art with lots of detail... and they are huge!

He told us his name is "Walkingstick".

And no, he didn't build the totem poles. He just lives next to them and oversees them.  

He likes to come outside and say hello to anyone who visits and find out where they are from, even on a hot day like this one!

After checking out what is boasted as the largest and tallest totem pole in the world... we continued on Route 66 to Claremore and Catoosa.  We could not resist the urge to get up close and personal with the infamous Blue Whale.  

Back in the 70's this was a waterpark!   I am quite certain I swam here when I was 4 or 5 years old, back when it was fairly new.  However, it's been pretty much abandoned as a waterpark for as long as anyone can remember.

Next to the Blue Whale is an abandoned petting zoo, also known as Noah's Ark.

We ended our day...  hot and exhausted, back in Tulsa, at Crow Creek  for lunch... What a great day! We hope that Scott and Kelly will ride with us again sometime!  

And NO... I did not really order two of those beavers!

Boating Season!

Everyone has been asking me... why I haven't posted anything lately.  The truth is, we have been spending our weekends at the lake so I don't have any fresh tales from the back of the bike.  However, here are some pictures of the past few weekends!

Update on the abandoned school

Okay... so it turns out there might be more to that old school house we stopped to see on our last ride.  We found out that the school house was also a church.  It's located in Fort Douglas, Arkansas next to the Fort Douglas Cemetery that dates back to the civil war.  Fort Douglas no longer exists as a town and the school house and cemetary is pretty much all that is left.

Here are all the pictures we took... and it gets interesting if you believe in the paranormal!  I think it's important to mention that walking into this building was a little creepy.  It was much cooler inside than outside, even though there was a breeze flowing through it.  It was very very dark inside, and the only way to see what was in the classrooms was from the flash on the camera.  We didn't really know what we were taking pictures of until we saw them later.

We took 236 pictures over the weekend... and only one, THIS ONE, which happened to be taken in that old school has an orb and some strange yellow lights in it.  This room was colder than the rest and also had a weird smell.  The smell got stronger every time I walked by it.

Cliff noticed this strange photo this morning.  We really thought nothing of any of this, until Jon posted a comment on the blog about the place being haunted.  Naturally, we started looking into it trying to find out more!  Click here to read about the "hauntings" apparently associated with this place!
